      Yes! La La Land has an actual size poster included as well so they are the same.

    I've not done any Cloudberries. I have to admit, the artwork is not really my cup of tea - I checked their website after your video was over, and the ones I like are the smaller run puzzles, and of course a higher price tag accordingly. Regarding the resealable bag - I was agreeing with you and other reviewers who have commented on the same thing, and I have to say...I do still agree basically...but...did you not grow up, as I did, with just putting the pieces back in the box loose? I realized recently as I took out a favourite puzzle to redo, that I do this all the time. Is it so bad? Do pieces get lost if they're loose in the box without being in a ziploc? In my experience, not really...which makes me wonder, what if they shipped loose in the box? If the box is sealed with the little patches you talked about, none would get lost....would they get damaged in shipping? maybe....regarding fit...I like the happy medium. I think Ravensburger and Cobble Hill strike the balance pretty well, and I did an Arcadia puzzle recently (Canadian) that was also "just right". I don't think the puzzle pick up, although fun, needs to be a measurement of a puzzle's quality necessarily, but at the same time, it's annoying when pieces don 't fit snuggly and you are left second guessing whether they really belong together or you've got a misfit.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      For me the resealable bag is a necessity because I move my puzzles around a lot! I take them out in public (library/mall), and to the jigsaw puzzle display. I even puzzled the other week at a sports venue. I do meetups with local groups and have the boxes in my car, although I try to contain them safely, means that a resealable bag is worth it. And especially if you are reselling and shipping your puzzles, more security to make sure you don't lose a piece. But if you just bought a puzzle to keep at home and redo, hopefully you wouldn't lose pieces. I would like to try a puzzle from the Arcadia brand. And yeah, pick-up is fun but not necessary. I definitely hate a crumbly puzzle - those are the worse!

    With the secondhand puzzle, was it just the pieces that smelled or also the box? If latter, maybe they were stored together with scented candles or something similar...

      Like everything smelled - I could even smell it outside the box. So the box and the pieces and the poster - it was strong!

    I like to be able to move sections around. But i don't mind if they don't pass a pick up challenge. I haven't try Cloudberries, but i have 'Symmetry ' (i think that's the name) in my to do pile. Love your videos!!

    Much prefer a tighter fit than a loose one. When i disassemble i tend to put clumps into a large ziplock bag and gently shake the bag until they are all loose, that seems to 'unlock' the pieces without doing damage. I have noticed some brands are different fits depending on the piece count - Pomegranate which I love, are great with their 1000 pieces, but some of their 500 piece puzzles are ridiculously tight sometimes, to the point of risking tabs. Ravensburgers are the best imo.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      Alison also does the clumps in the bag and shake method - works really well on most puzzles also. I noticed different cut/quality with my Grafika puzzles - loved the 1k and 2k but not the 6k.

  • @Kanguruo
    @Kanguruo 16 годин тому

    I hate the time it takes to disassemble a puzzle, so I am happy when the fit is not that tight and you can quickly take it apart.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      I will admit that I am not the most thorough when taking a puzzle apart - I'm a lazy disassembler.

    Great review as always 😁. I love Cloudberries puzzles (their normal puzzles, NOT their Small Batch puzzles!). They have some amazing images and I really like the quality 😊. I hear a lot of people calling the pieces waxy, but I wouldn't agree with that at all, and not with Art and Fable either. I think Art and Fable are velvety and Cloudberries are just smooth with a little bit of linen texture, not unlike Ravensburger puzzles. I have tried a couple of Talking Tables puzzles, and they have the same pieces as Cloudberries, but they definitely have a wax coating, completely smooth, no linen texture and you can actually see the "wax". But I honestly don't understand how people think that Cloudberries pieces are waxy, again they are more like Ravensburger in texture... So I find it interesting how we can all have such different experiences, and how subjective it is 😊 My only problem with Cloudberries is the poster. For me, it's just a waste of material to have it that big, and I never use it. I have no room for it on the table, and if I did, I still find it difficult to use as a reference, since I can't see the whole thing at once. I really wish that they would at least make it half the size. But I love that there is a nice big image on the box, so it's not like I absolutely need a poster 😊. I think Cloudberries have the perfect fit 😁. Tight so it's really easy to move sections, but still easy to take apart. I don't like loose fitting pieces, I find it very cumbersome to put together, and I don't mind that it takes a couple of extra minutes to take apart. A loose fitting puzzle just takes longer to put together, because I have to struggle with the pieces moving them around 😉. But there are definitely puzzles that have a to tight fit, often if there are a paper backing like Galison for example. They are so tight that the pieces, especially the paper backing often gets damaged when I take apart the pieces, unless I'm super, super carefull, and that is just annoying 😬.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      It is so very subjective as I feel Cloudberries and Ravensburger pieces are nothing alike to the touch. I agree the poster could be half the size. I have the room for it but many don't. The Circle of Colors poster with Ravensbruger are also very big - like actual size. I agree with puzzles that have paper backing - they are the worse to take apart!

    I had the same experience with a couple second hand puzzles (not Cloudberries) smelling sweet. I wondered if they had come out of a smoker's house or one with mildew and they sprayed something on it to cover the smell. It was really hard to deal with.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      Luckily I didn't really mind the smell, it was just surprising. But I do think whatever created the smell cause the issue with the pieces - like it got wet so perhaps it was sprayed with something.

    I love the fit of Ravensburger puzzles so i guess that means I prefer a tight fit. Thanks for showing Cloudberries, I have seen shelves of them on UA-cam and wondered about them! We are really starting to see a wider range of brands in NZ - it’s a great time to be a puzzler! I recently scored a 3000 piece Ravensburger on Trademe for $10.50, it was complete and perfect! Stoked about that. In contrast, I got a puzzle at an op shop for $3 only to find all of the edge pieces were missing. It definitely is a lottery! I buy new puzzles from Mighty Ape quite often - I’m a prime member so get free shipping and sometimes extra discounts. They often have puzzles on daily deals. You might like to check that out? FYI, I checked on the soft plastic recycling scheme and Dunedin now has bins for collection at stores again. They halted it for some months but they can now send it to Blenheim for processing! I recommend you google “soft plastic recycling Dunedin” to find a store near you. Hope that helps!

    It is not clear to me that adhesive stickers are much better than traditional shrink wrap from an environmental point of view. I have heard that the stickers are made of a different type of plastic and that the chemicals used for the adhesive can be toxic. I have been trying to find out more about it on the internet but to no avail. I think we have to be careful when looking at environmental sustainability that we consider the entire lifecycle of the product. It may look better from a marketing perspective but is it really? I don't know.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      Blue Kazoo's adhesive stickers are biodegradable - which I hope would be better than shrink wrap. I'm sure there are many types of these stickers though and so I hope companies would opt for the environmentally-friendly ones.

    Me again! I would venture to guess that because they're a newer company (maybe around the time of the ick when a lot of solo hobbies really took off because people were stuck inside) and the puzzles you did before were their initial run or at the very least, an earlier rendition and as they've grown, they've been able to invest in an improved product, perhaps?

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      It could well be. I have no idea when Cloudberries became a company and don't know much about them. I do know many companies had manufacturing issues during the "ick" years.

    I found the prismagic silver vintage Springbok for 79 cents at a local thrift store and immediately opened it when I got home to take a look and noticed a faint smell. I was really worried about smells, but not the smell this puzzle had...being 40+ years old, I was worried about 'old' smells from being left sitting in a stale environment for decades. Instead, I was pleased to discover that the smell was kind of like a baby powder adjacent...it was a fresh clean smell with a bit of sweetness to it. If a puzzle is going to pick up a smell, I'd rather it pick up something like that then the more likely vintage smells of moth balls, dust and/or the worst offender of them all: smoke from cigs and/or cigars. Smells like to cling, that's for sure!

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 3 години тому

      I agree, I thought the smell was pleasant, it just surprised me. It was so sweet and berry-like that honestly thought it was a marketing ploy by Cloudberries to have their puzzles smell like berries! I have an old Springbok as well and it just smells like older paper - I like it, like an old book.

    Another great reason for the two sticky tabs, you don't pull it off, you just slice through and they stay their the life of the puzzle- more often than not. Also they are the perfect spot to use your painters tape to tape the box shut when you pass it on for future life!!

    I built one Cloudberries puzzle, Chromatic I think was the name, loved it. Suggestion for everyone out there, every bag is resealable if you use a stapler. It also easy to remove the metal staples and again reseal. One more thing! I couldn't use the keyboard when I watched your dragon puzzle video cause I had a large puzzle on the table, but you mispronounced Smaug 😉

    It's funny you mention the plastic wrap. I received an email from White Mountain puzzles today saying they are switching from the wrap to the stickers to help keep the plastic out of landfills. Ha! While you were talking mid puzzle, I was totally looking at the blue piece and saying I know where that goes and you grabbed it and placed it in the spot! Prefer puzzles slightly tighter. Looser ones are harder to put together in general. I'd rather take a few extra minutes to take them apart than extra hours putting together.

    Second hand puzzles can be something of a lottery. You either get a well cared for one or one that has been through the mill. I've had puzzles in the past that were musty, bits missing, paper peeling, food and drink stains and chewed pieces. Depends on how many times they have already been done before you get it. With regard to fit I'm not a fan of tight fitting puzzles as they are hard to take apart without damaging any pieces. Equally too loose a fit means that if you breathe on it pieces fall apart! I've never had a problem with new Cloudberries puzzles and even with second hand ones they have been fine. Look forward to your next video.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I honestly think something had been done to my secondhand ones - the smell was a real giveaway. This was completely differently thankfully. I'm glad that Cloudberries trusted me to give their puzzles another chance. But yeah, buying secondhand is always a toss up - I don't mind so much if I don't spend too much.

    I have purchased a thrifted puzzle with a sweet odor. I was thinking that perhaps someone was vaping while they were completing it? I tried to air it out to no avail. Ended up closing the box and passing it along without completing.

    I would prefer puzzles to be tighter. When I'm done. I usually place them in the box in large parts that fill out the full area of the box, in big rectangles, but with no additional support, no glue or tape. So when I move boxes around it would be sad if pieces disassembled easily inside the box on their own. (I only disassemble them the moment I decide to redo the puzzle)

      I also have sectioned off puzzles and kept them in the box - do that a lot with bigger piece count puzzles. It's such a smart idea.

    I do think Ravensburger has the perfect balance of tightness of fit and ease of disassembly. i like to be able to move small-medium sections. i would prefer tighter fit over looser fit though, as i don't really like how loose puzzles shift around until i connect larger sections. i actually avoid educa among others for this reason, even though i love most of their images 😢 i like this fancy new waxy finish, especially because the pieces have less rounded edges for some reason, making the fit and image really beautiful, but i don't like how puzzle dust sticks to that surface. some of the last pieces in the box will almost be coated in it and block out the image on them! 😮

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles День тому

      Knock on/touch wood - I have never really had any issues with all my Ravensburger puzzles. I also love Educa images but I just cannot do those puzzles! So this waxy coating is new to Cloudberries? I didn't have any puzzle dust in the box so I didn't really notice anything on the last few pieces.

    I do love Cloudberries - I have the 500 piece Whale and Cascade ones, as well as the 1000 piece Origami, Egyptology and Skyline ones. The pieces are very nice to handle and they are beautiful to look at when finished and fun to build. Your guess that either it was wiped down with disinfectant maybe to cleanse before packing away to send to you, or that the bags had been used previously for something scented might be on the money. I simply put mine away in new resealable bags and they have been packed away and are fine. I love this Daydream one but they are about $50 each so not paying that for 1000 piece puzzles. I always feel that if I pay that I want it to be something that takes a while so I feel like I got my money's worth. Yes, it does take a while to take it apart carefully. I prefer something between this and the Educa that doesn't stay in place at all.

    This will cover a few topics. I am a casual puzzler. I basically build 1,000 piece puzzles at a relaxed pace. Puzzling helps me relax, slow down and focus. I checked the cost of Soonness Puzzles - $58 US Dollars. Too expensive. I have recently acquired two 2,000 piece puzzles - Cloudberries "Reflection" and Ravensburger (Demelsa Haughton) "Novel Avenue". I recently built Cloudberries 1,000 piece "Symmetry". I would be interested to see how you tackle "Novel Avenue". I am presently working on Cloudberries "Kitchen". I was recently gifted my first Bluekazoo puzzle - "Out West" (Alisa Lariushkina). I am on a wait list for "Meridian" and "Flower Pot" and hoping Bluekazoo restocks these puzzles soon. I do not intend to buy lots of puzzles, and in fact, once I acquire "Meridian" and "Flower Pot" from Bluekazoo, I may draw the line. I have about 45 puzzles, and that is enough for little ole me. I really enjoyed your review of Bluekazoo puzzles. Exceedingly high quality puzzles and not overpriced. Their premium puzzles are going for $32.00 US Dollars. I am enjoying the Cloudberries Small Batch series of puzzles, also. Have you ever built one of those puzzles? I have a few Art & Fable puzzles, also. Wish the piece cut was thicker, however. New Zealand is a long way away from the American Desert Southwest. It is very hot here at the moment - a good time for puzzling. Keep up the good work with your You Tube Channel. Thanks for contributing to the puzzling community.

    Very puzzle images. Super vibrant colors, they really popped on the screen. I prefer tighter fit because I like to move sections around and since it is an adult who is handling it, I do take my time separating the pieces. I need to open one of my cloudberries puzzles and try them. I think the person who sold you the second hand puzzle stored the puzzles near scented candles, maybe?

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      The colours were so much fun! Definitely when puzzling with Alison, a tighter fit is so much better as she finishes sections and then I move them into place. Next to a scented candle would make so much sense! What Cloudberries puzzles do you have??

    These are such fun images. I haven't done a Cloudberries before. Daydream is about 25.00 on Amazon here in the states, which really isn't a bad price. It's very frustrating for me if I'm doing a puzzle and I can't move 3 or 4 pieces without them falling apart. However, I worry if I'm doing a puzzle if the pieces are so tight that it's difficult to take the puzzle apart. I worry about breaking the prongs. I've done that before. This was such a nice review. thanks for sharing.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I find puzzles with glossy finishes are more difficult to take apart and I have bent prongs on those like Flora Heart. I don't think $25 is bad for Daydream either - I really enjoyed it. And yes, if you can't move 4 pieces around without it falling apart, so frustrating!!

    This was such a cool puzzle to watch you build. I am the same with these busy puzzles, pick up a piece and put where it belongs. Esp on the poster, but a box top will work too. You just can put as many pieces before they start sliding off!! I did his bizarre bookshelf (I've seen it both ways as well), but it was in a multi pack and only 100 pieces. I need to get it in a bigger piece size. Too many details!!! Aimee Stewart is similar, lots of details in one puzzle. Ok I'm off to watch Vicki's now!!!

    For me 100% tighter fit... I don't mind taking time disassembling the puzzle, I much rather have it tighter and sticking together while moving the pieces. I did not done any Cloudberries puzzle but it is on the wish list :) Great job with the puzzle, it was really nice puzzle.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 2 дні тому

      I think I would also prefer a tighter fit. I will admit that I am not the best at fully disassembling a puzzle - except when I pass on to Alison to speed run hehehehe Then I make sure to really take it apart and mix all the pieces up - I know, so mean!

  • @puzzlingread
    @puzzlingread 2 дні тому

    I guess I prefer a Goldilocks fit for puzzles--not too loose, not too tight, just right, lol. But if I had to choose one extreme or the other, I absolutely want pieces that stay together--at least for anything over 500 pieces. It is soooo frustrating to have a puzzle fall apart when you have to slide sections or rotate the puzzle around. Regarding doing used puzzles on the channel, I think it's something you should continue to do if you find a used puzzle that you want to film. I think it is like you said, that it's one indication of a puzzle's quality if it can be assembled and disassembled multiple times. I love buying used puzzles but I usually get them in person at charity shops where I can smell them before I buy them 😝🧩💚

      So true!!! In fact I think I cut out part of the video where I say something to that effect - not too loose, not too tight, just right! Crumbly puzzles are the worse! I personally don't like the feel of the waxy pieces. I think Cloudberries are more sticky feeling and Art and Fable are more velvet feeling. I don't like the feel of A&F either but better than Cloudberries. As a shuffler, these pieces don't slide over each other very well, they kind of stick, making shuffling hard. I will always choose tighter fitting pieces over loose fitting.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I think Alison also mentioned how she couldn't shuffle the pieces in the box of one Art & Fable puzzle she did. Those first two Cloudberries definitely did not have a waxy feel to them so I am convinced something was maybe sprayed on those puzzles - but why?? And I agree, I prefer a tighter fitting puzzle as well - crumbly drives me crazy!

  • @Lyntintin1

    I do something similar with busy puzzles. I do tend to pull out edges first so I can have a contained puzzle, then words if there are any and then I use the poster or the box to place the pieces in the right area then transfer to the puzzle table. And once you get to 1000 pcs it will be very quick!!! just filling in empty places.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      Definitely once the edge was done, the puzzle felt just better and easier to work with. It was so spread out there at first.

  • @danish_puzzler
    @danish_puzzler 2 дні тому

    My thoughts. I far prefer a looser fit and easier to disassemble. Not so loose that the slightest nudge of the table or unintentional touch takes a section apart, but loose enough that an intentional puzzle roll and crunch dislodges 80% of the pieces. My perfect brand is Heye as far as loose vs tight fit. The waxy feel of Cloudberries puts me off. I have done 3 new ones and it raises the hairs on the back of my neck - I can't explain it but the texture just isn't for me. Whereas I love the velvety texture of A&F and Water and Wines. I am dying to do a couple of the Cloudberries images though, so actually looked into gloves that I could maybe wear. The false fits also drive me a bit crazy but I could overcome that for the right image (Crossroads).

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles 2 дні тому

      I still need to try Heye! I must get my hands on one of their puzzles and soon. Maybe I can bring one back from Worlds. Interesting how the Cloudberries feel bugged you but not the Art & Fable. They are similar but definitely different but I can see how you might enjoy the A&F one more. I looked up Crossroads and that would so be my style of puzzle - doubt you would encounter any either.

    First of all, I love your outtakes at the end. I look forward to them now, they always make me smile! Second, you explained perfectly well abt the shards in your puzzle box. It has already been mentioned that in US dollars they are $58. That is definitely out of my budget for a 1000pc puzzle. We do have a lot of options here in the US so that does add to it, but I enjoy a good Buffalo or Ravensburger puzzle at a fraction of that price. Thanks for your review of this puzzle. I'm glad customer service tookk care of you, but that is definitely a quality issue, quality control should have caught that.
